Ouagadougou: The technical departments of the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources conducted a mission on Wednesday to identify and raise awareness among livestock feed production and marketing units, as well as milk processing units, based in Ouagadougou. This initiative was aimed at ensuring the quality of products and adherence to established standards.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Director General of Veterinary Services, Veterinary Captain Nacro Aboubacar, stated that inspections of production, import, and marketing units of animal feed, along with dairies and milk processing units, have been underway since Monday following instructions from the Minister of State. The primary goals are to identify all active units in these sectors and to enhance their compliance with regulatory standards in livestock feed and milk production and processing.
Captain Nacro highlighted the prevalent issues, noting the uncontrolled establishment of livestock feed producers and milk processing units not only in Ouagadougou but across various regions of the country. This situation prompted the awareness mission to ensure these entities adhere to regulatory requirements. After visiting a dairy establishment and a livestock feed production and marketing unit, Captain Nacro urged these businesses to comply with existing regulations. He encouraged them to engage with technical services to obtain necessary health authorizations that confirm the quality of their products.
Moussa Ou©draogo, head of Agro-Food for Poultry (AAV), expressed satisfaction with the veterinary services' visit. He believes that adherence to regulations could significantly improve the quality of feed and rectify existing market disarray. He emphasized that the current market scenario involves many untrained individuals entering the field of livestock feed production and marketing, contributing to disorder.
Mariam Ou©draogo/Porgo, head of the "Kim et Fils" pasteurized milk processing unit, expressed gratitude towards the technical services for their awareness efforts. She committed to following standards in packaging, processing, and storage of dairy products to ensure quality.
The mission by the General Directorate of Veterinary Services is supported by the General Directorate of Animal Production and the General Directorate of the Centre for the Promotion of Poultry Farming and the Multiplication of High-Performance Animals.
