The city of Po has recorded in less than two weeks, two babies abandoned by their mother. The last one took place on September 29, 2024.The social, security and health services have been contacted twice in less than two weeks for cases of baby abandonment in the city of Po.The first time was on Monday, September 16, 2024, around 4 a.m. A couple from sector No. 3 of the city of Pô were alerted by the cries of a baby in an abandoned courtyard.After checking, the couple realized that there was a little girl, about two months old, wrapped in a loincloth.Alerted, the Social Action services took charge of the baby.On Sunday, September 29, 2024, another case of abandonment of a male baby, who had just been born a few minutes ago, with the umbilical cord and placenta wrapped in a loincloth, was again observed in sector No. 6 of the city of Pô, in an unfinished house.According to witnesses, the birth took place in the unfinished building.He was also taken to the Medical Center with Surgical Unit (CMA) i n Pô.According to the interim director of the provincial directorate of Social Action of Nahouri, Saïdou Compaoré, these cases of abandoned children are recurrent in the commune of Pô.For him, these two cases come in addition to five others already recorded by their services in the space of two years."Despite the various awareness campaigns on reproductive health and the availability of contraceptive methods, many adolescents continue to engage in risky sexual behavior," regretted Mr. Compaoré.He called on parents to better educate their children and also on young people to be responsible in choosing their partners.Something that will contribute to better protection of children's rights, particularly the right to a family.The two babies were placed in foster families and are doing very well according to the results of the various examinations carried out at the CMA in Pô.Source: Burkina Information Agency
