Burkina: Professionals in the telecommunications sector want to unite actions to create their order

The Burkinabe Association of Telecommunications Professionals (ABPMT) intends to coordinate and federate the synergies of telecommunications engineers and technicians through the creation of an order that will be the single reference body in Burkina Faso in terms of telecommunications, officials of the association indicated on Saturday."The order of telecommunications engineers and technicians will serve as a framework for stakeholders to better structure the field and speak with one voice to authorities and international institutions," said the Secretary General (SG) of the ABPMT, Boureima Niampa, on Saturday.SG Boureima Niampa spoke on Saturday, September 14, 2024 in Ouagadougou, during an ordinary general meeting of the ABPMT, during which the annual moral and financial report was drawn up.According to him, the order, which is currently being formed, aims to represent professionals in the telecommunications sector with the authorities and institutions in order to participate in major missions on dev elopment projects."It will also contribute to the promotion of research and innovation in the field of telecommunications in Burkina Faso and in the sub-region," said Boureima Niampa.According to ABPMT, the country currently has more than 10 formal associations working in the telecommunications sector. It advocates the creation of an umbrella organization for the latter, a prerequisite for the establishment of the order."We are in the fields of science and technology. We have studied mathematics, physics, computer science, etc. This is why we want a single body that we will call the TIES federation, and the associations will be members," said SG Niampa.Since moral and financial reports are essential for the preparation of files for setting up the umbrella organization, President Moumouni Sawadogo invited the associations to complete the administrative formalities.Created on July 29, 2023, the ABPMT, after a year of operation, made a positive assessment according to its president, with a 62% complet ion rate of its activity program. With its 50 active members, the president, who noted the low membership of new members, invited all engineers and technicians from the public and private sectors to take ownership of the association. It should be noted that the ABPMT aims to strengthen links between stakeholders in the field and to promote development and excellence in the telecommunications sector in Burkina Faso.Source: Burkina Information Agency
