Burkina: Terrorism and trials on the menu of Burkinabè dailies

The daily newspapers of this Thursday talk about the fight against terrorism and the trial of the Mogho Naaba palace case.

The private daily L’Express du Faso, published in Bobo-Dioulasso headlined its front page “Attempt to burn the palace of Mogho Naaba: Once upon a time Marcel, his Judas and the audios”.

The newspaper informs that the trial of Marcel Tankoano and others, prosecuted for the attempted arson of the Mogho Naaba palace opened on June 21, 2023.

Ten defendants were at the bar for several counts including non-disclosure of an offence, endangering the person of others.

All of these defendants have not admitted the facts with the exception of Souleymane Belem who admits having shared the audio, reports the newspaper.

On the same subject, the private daily newspaper Le Pays mentions on its front page: “Mogho Naaba Palace case trial: Overwhelmed, Marcel Tankoano cries conspiracy”.

The newspaper reports that in the trial, everything seems to revolve around Marcel Tankoano, journalist, leader of a civil society organization, “political entrepreneur”.

Indeed, he is accused of disclosing false information, incitement to willful damage to property, provocation of a crowd not followed by effect, endangering the person of others.

The newspaper adds that despite the witnesses cited by the prosecution, the defendants, in particular Marcel Tankoano, do not recognize the facts.

For the dean of the private dailies L’Observateur Paalga, Désiré Guinko declared that he had nothing to do with this audio business.

He recalled that as spokesperson for the FUF (United Front for Faso), he never took part in any meeting of this group that decided on the project to produce the famous audios.

From another angle, L’Observateur Paalga titles on its headline “Fight against terrorism: Meeting with the “Pharaoh” of Solhan.

The newspaper indicates that deployed for 5 months in Solhan, the gendarmerie detachment “Solhan7” will have made a lasting impression with its numerous civil-military actions.

On this same subject, the newspaper adds that the army is currently proving itself on the ground.
