Ouagadougou:A mobile application named "ViimSante" has been officially introduced in Ouagadougou, designed to digitize certified medical prescriptions and streamline healthcare processes. This innovative platform was launched under the auspices of Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the application was developed by Dr. Delwende Josué Delma, a pharmacist and health systems expert, and Dr. Pingwindé Nestor Sam, a physician specializing in digital health. "ViimSante" aims to address the challenges associated with managing paper prescriptions and the frequent trips patients must make between health facilities and pharmacies.
The application facilitates communication between patients, prescribers, pharmacies, and insurers, enhancing the traceability of prescriptions and transparency in patient care. Patients receive digital prescriptions in their accounts, along with a reference number sent via SMS. At the pharmacy, healthcare professionals can verify prescriptions using this number or an associated QR code before dispensing medication.
Additionally, the app allows for the renewal of prescriptions, enabling patients to request them without visiting healthcare providers in person. It is freely accessible to patients on mobile devices.
During the launch ceremony, Technical Advisor Bassirou Sare, representing the Minister of Health, congratulated the app's developers. He emphasized the importance of maintaining service reliability, data security, and medical information confidentiality. The adoption and continuous improvement of the tool by healthcare professionals and users are crucial to its success, he noted.
Technical Advisor Oumarou Toé, representing the Minister of Servants of the People Mathias Traoré, commended the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve care access and coordination among healthcare system actors.
