Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe Society of Radiology recently held a special evening event in Ouagadougou to honor Professor Leonie Claudine Lougue/Sorgho, a distinguished figure in the field of radiology who has retired. The event coincided with the International Day of Radiology and was a heartfelt tribute to Professor Lougue/Sorgho, who also served as the former Minister of Health in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tribute evening featured a film that chronicled the illustrious career of Professor Lougue/Sorgho, who was once the dean of the Training and Research Unit in Health Sciences at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University. Her former students, now practicing doctors in radiology and medical imaging, expressed their gratitude through a specially composed song, dance performances, and heartfelt testimonials acknowledging her significant contributions to their education.
The Burkinabe Society of Radiology, along with other professionals in the field of radiology and medical imaging, presented gifts to Professor Lougue/Sorgho, who will officially retire in 2024. In an emotional response, she expressed her gratitude, stating, "It's very emotional to see my career judged positively by my colleagues. I would like to thank them for everything."
During the event, female doctors shared how Professor Lougue/Sorgho's leadership had profoundly impacted their training. The retired professor expressed her pride in being a role model and in helping increase the number of radiologists in Burkina Faso, thereby enhancing patient care quality. She advised young radiologists to treat patients with compassion and to collaborate with other specialists for comprehensive healthcare delivery.
Additionally, Professor Lougue/Sorgho is recognized as the only Burkinabe member of the African Academy of Health Sciences in Dakhla, Morocco. The academy, inaugurated on November 29th, aims to support young researchers through shared experiences and collaborative research themes.
Professor Rabiou Cisse, the former president of Joseph Ki Zerbo University, emphasized the importance of the tribute evening as a means to acknowledge the significant contributions of a retiring educator like Professor Lougue/Sorgho.
