Ouagadougou: The Minister of Basic Education, Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages, Jacques Sosth¨ne Dingara, expressed his hopes for integrating African wisdom into children's education during a visit to the Moogho Naaba Palace with a group of students. He emphasized the importance of moving beyond a purely academic focus to include cultural and traditional elements in the educational system.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Dingara made these remarks on Friday, May 23, 2025, during an educational visit to the Moogho Naaba Palace and the National Museum. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote civic and cultural education among students. At the palace, students participated in the "False departure of Moogho Naaba," a weekly ceremony designed to instill the value of thoughtful decision-making rather than impulsive actions.
The minister highlighted the significance of such experiences in helping children understand and appreciate the history and culture of the Moss©s, as well as benefiting from the wise counsel of Moogho Naaba. He expressed a desire for schools to be under the guidance of traditional and customary leaders, ensuring that education aligns with Burkinabe cultural realities.
Minister Dingara also encouraged his colleagues to organize similar cultural engagements in different regions to immerse children in their cultural heritage throughout the year. He sees this as a means for children to reconnect with their roots and recognize their cultural identity, which is upheld by society's traditional custodians.
Yacouba Barry, the ministry's mission officer, noted that such immersion in cultural and traditional settings, like museums, equips children with knowledge to safeguard their heritage. He affirmed the Ministry of Basic Education's commitment to embedding traditional values more deeply within the educational framework.
