Ouahigouya:Over 70 women participated in a breast and cervical cancer screening session organized to celebrate "Pink October." The event was a collaboration between the city of Naaba Kango's hiking club and the CHUR, held on Friday.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the screening session aimed to help women prevent breast and cervical cancers, which are significant causes of mortality. The mobile clinic's care team also used the opportunity to educate attendees at the CSPS in Tougzagu, sector 13 of Ouahigouya.
Dr. Rachida Marie Josphine Drabo, a gynecologist at the Ouahigouya University Hospital, commended the hiking club for its dedication to organizing the event. She emphasized that early detection of breast and cervical cancers significantly increases the likelihood of complete remission, thanks to available treatments in Burkina Faso.
Haguiratou Kafando, a club member present at the event, encouraged women in Yatenga to maintain regular exercise, perform self-exams, and prioritize early cancer screenings. She stressed that adopting these practices is crucial in combating diseases that claim many women's lives annually.
Aminata Oudraogo, another club member, highlighted the health benefits of regular physical activity by completing a fifty-kilometer walk earlier that morning. She attributes her excellent health to consistent exercise.
