Catholic Community in Bittou Holds Annual Cemetery Cleanup Initiative

Bittou:The Catholic faithful of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste parish in Bittou organized their annual sanitation day at the town cemetery on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The event aimed to clean the resting places of the deceased and demonstrate the community's attachment to the memory of their predecessors.

According to Burkina Information Agency, early in the morning, men and women from the Catholic community mobilized to participate in this cleanup operation. Equipped with cleaning supplies, the participants collected waste, weeded, and cleaned various parts of the cemetery.

This initiative seeks to provide a clean and dignified setting for those being buried, reflecting the desire of the faithful to perpetuate values of solidarity, respect for the deceased, and collective responsibility within the community. Organizers view the day as an opportunity to demonstrate the love and gratitude of the living towards their ancestors, emphasizing that cemetery upkeep is a shared responsibility requiring everyone's commitment.

Participants left the workshop with a heightened awareness of the importance of maintaining cemeteries in a clean state. They were encouraged to adopt responsible behaviors to prevent garbage accumulation and weed proliferation in burial grounds.
