Catholic Faithful in Gossina Celebrate Wudizon Mass in Gratitude for Harvest

Gossina: Catholics in Gossina celebrated the Wudizon Mass on Sunday, November 9, 2025, expressing their gratitude to God for the harvests and graces obtained during the year. Presided over by Father Beno®t Tao, the celebration brought together many faithful who came to thank the Lord for the abundance of the harvests.

According to Burkina Information Agency, holding ears of millet, corn, and peanuts, the Christians expressed their gratitude through songs, prayers, and Bible readings focused on joy and thanksgiving. In his homily, Father Beno®t Tao invited the faithful to experience the true joy that comes from prayer and gratitude. “Wudizon is a time of thanksgiving, a moment to say thank you to God, not only for the harvests, but also for life, peace, and brotherhood,” he emphasized.

Drawing on the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, the priest reminded everyone that sincere prayer comes from a humble heart. “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted,” he emphasized, before calling on the faithful to embrace reconciliation and solidarity. According to him, the Wudizon festival should be experienced as a spiritual new beginning: “Let everyone reset the clock of resentment, conflict, and division. Wudizon is also about inner rebirth,” urged Father Tao.

The religious festival continued into the evening with traditional wrestling, a highly anticipated highlight for the community. Starting at 4 p.m., young wrestlers from all over the area competed in the Gossina arena to the cheers of an enthusiastic crowd. Amed Ki, a wrestler from Gossina, particularly distinguished himself by defeating several opponents, thus winning the evening’s title.

The festivities ended around 5:30 p.m. in a friendly and secure atmosphere thanks to the vigilance of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) who ensured the protection of the commune throughout the celebration.
