Catholic Faithful Revive Ekoulkoala Pilgrimage After Long Hiatus

Sanguie: Catholic faithful from the eight parishes of the Western deanery converged on Sunday, April 12, towards the Ekoulkoala site for their pilgrimage. This spiritual meeting, presided over by the auxiliary bishop of Koudougou, Mgr Alexandre Yikyi Bazie, marks the resumption of activities on this site after sixteen years of interruption.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the faithful came from the parishes of Reo, Didyr, Tenado, Zoula, Kordie, Pouni-Tita, Kyon, and Dassa to participate in this meeting of faith. From the first light of day, a large crowd of men, women, and young people filled the Ekoulkoala site, demonstrating strong enthusiasm for this rediscovered tradition.

The Eucharistic celebration, the focal point of this pilgrimage, was officiated by Bishop Alexandre Yikyi Bazie, assisted by about ten priests from the deanery. Coinciding with Divine Mercy Sunday, the bishop focused his homily on the compassion and unconditional love of the Creator. "God loves us all and wants to save everyone," the prelate declared, urging the pilgrims to translate this divine mercy into concrete actions within their respective communities.

For the organizers, the resumption of this pilgrimage after a 16-year hiatus is not only a return to the roots but a powerful lever for strengthening unity between the different parishes of the Sanguie province. The celebration ended in an atmosphere of fraternal communion, with the faithful seeing this renewal as a sign of hope for the local Church.
