Kadiogo: The Central Church of the Assemblies of God in Saaba organized a public conference for its members on Sunday in Ouagadougou. The conference focused on communication in the context of a security crisis. Led by church leaders, with Louis Modeste Ou©draogo, President of the High Council for Communication (CSC), as the main guest speaker, the initiative aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of best communication practices, particularly on social media. Approximately one hundred members participated in this exchange and awareness-raising session, which centered on the challenges of responsible communication in a context marked by security issues.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Ms. Yvette Zida, a conference participant, stated that the initiative was timely. “This conference will allow members to better master communication, especially on social media. We welcome this opportunity, which helps us better understand our responsibilities when sharing information,” she said. Ms. Rosine Matolel expressed that the meeting provided participants with useful knowledge. “Many people think that in church, it’s enough to just talk about the Bible without considering other aspects of social life. Today, the speakers provided us with important insights into communication during times of crisis and the precautions to take before disseminating information,” she emphasized.
Participants particularly noted the need to verify the accuracy of information before any publication or sharing. Brigitte Ou©draogo, the Special Advisor to the President of Burkina Faso in the Central Region, indicated that this initiative contributes to strengthening the understanding of responsible communication. Ms. Ou©draogo urged everyone to carefully consider the content of their messages. She emphasized that poor communication can lead to delicate situations, particularly in crises. She encouraged other religious denominations to follow the example of the Central Church of the Assemblies of God of Saba by increasing awareness and exchange frameworks.
The senior pastor of the Central Church of the Assemblies of God in Saaba, Dr. Urbain Ou©draogo, reminded everyone that communication plays an essential role in daily life. “To live is to communicate. But to communicate well, you have to learn how to do it. This conference aims to allow our faithful to benefit from the expertise of specialists so that they are better equipped to communicate responsibly in the current context,” he explained. He added that good training helps reduce the risk of communication errors and invited participants to put the lessons learned into practice.
According to the keynote speaker, Louis Modeste Ou©draogo, communication must always take the public interest into account. “Citizens must understand that freedom of expression comes with responsibilities. It is important to respect established rules, promote tolerance, respect for others, and social cohesion,” he stated. He noted that the conference also helped raise awareness among worshippers about the importance of calm communication that respects laws and social values, particularly in places of worship and on digital platforms.
