Centre-West: The Centre-West region marked World Environment Day (WED) 2025 with a slight delay, hosting a series of activities from Thursday, June 12 to Saturday, June 14, 2025.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative aligns with the Burkinabe government's vision of making environmental preservation a national priority. Regional authorities praised the success of the events, attributing it to strong public support.
WED 2025 featured key events aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing action. The event commenced on Thursday, June 12, with a public conference addressing critical topics such as the dangers of plastic and the concept of eco-neighborhoods, which offer innovative perspectives for sustainable development.
Emphasis was placed on Law No. 045/ALT of December 30, 2024, regulating the use of plastic packaging and bags in Burkina Faso, to inform the public about the new regulations.
The celebration's highlight was a large-scale sanitation action conducted on the morning of June 14. The gendarmerie group, territorial brigade, and gendarmerie company of Koudougou were actively engaged in this initiative.
Volunteers and associations also mobilized at various sites in Koudougou and across the region's three other provinces. This coordinated effort demonstrated a shared aspiration for a healthy environment for everyone's well-being.
Present authorities, including the High Commissioner of Boulkiemd©, Salimata Ouedraogo/Sanou, and other regional leaders, commended the significant involvement of the population. They urged citizens to maintain this eco-citizen momentum for an environment free of plastic waste.
Gendarmerie officials expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants for their efforts. The president of the special municipal delegation emphasized the urgent need to keep water drainage gutters clear to ensure smooth water runoff during the rainy season.
