Ouagadougou: The Ouezzin-ville D public primary school in Bobo-Dioulasso held the closing ceremony of the Arts and Culture Month (MAC) on Monday, July 13, 2026, marking the end of the pilot phase of this initiative aimed at promoting cultural values among students. The event's patron, Assetou Badoh/Guire, reaffirmed Sidwaya Publishing's commitment to supporting the activity in the participating schools.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony, under the patronage of Assetou Badoh/Guire, Director General of Sidwaya Editions, saw participation from regional education authorities of Guiriko and numerous parents who gathered to support this pioneering school engaged in the MAC initiative. Badoh/Guire expressed her satisfaction with the event's outcomes, highlighting the discovery of new talents and the dynamic support team fostering cultural awareness and identity among the children.
Assetou Badoh/Guire emphasized the synergy between academic and artistic excellence, asserting Sidwaya's commitment to backing the MAC initiative within the participating schools. The month-long program introduced students to various artistic and cultural pursuits such as local fabric weaving, drawing, painting, pottery, basket weaving, traditional dance, and storytelling.
Regional Director Soilliou Karantao lauded the school's role in the pilot phase, acknowledging the month's value for students, teachers, and the community. He noted the eagerness of students to learn about their cultural heritage, underscoring the importance of cultural education in schools.
Venance Somda, headmaster of Ouezzin-ville D public primary school, highlighted the cultural and artistic enrichment provided to students through this experience. Student Roukiatou Diarra shared her positive experience, detailing the skills acquired and encouraging peers to engage in future editions to gain valuable cultural skills.
The MAC 2026 pilot phase involved three schools in Bobo-Dioulasso: Camp Militaire D, Alpha Solidarite A, and Ouezzin Ville D. The regional closing for this inaugural edition in Guiriko is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Monseigneur Anselme Titianma Sanon House of Culture in Bobo-Dioulasso.
