Commander Ismaël Sombi Initiates Major Water Infrastructure Projects in Bobo-Dioulasso

Bobo-Dioulasso:Commander Ismaël Sombi, the Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources, inaugurated the construction of hydraulic infrastructure in Bobo-Dioulasso, located in the Guiriko region. The initiative, launched on October 10, 2026, aims to improve the drinking water supply across several neighborhoods of the city.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project is a response to the water supply challenges in sectors 17, 18, 26, and 27, where the demand for water surpasses the network's current capacity. The plan involves enhancing the pumping, storage, and distribution systems to ensure better water availability for residents.

The construction work will include a pumping station capable of processing 300 cubic meters per hour, a 2,000 cubic meter water tower, and approximately 7,000 meters of pipeline. These developments are expected to provide improved access to drinking water for nearly 132,000 additional people within a ten-month timeframe. Commander Sombi emphasized the importance of transforming water resource availability into effective access to this essential service for the population.

This project is part of a broader commitment by the authorities to address the population's everyday concerns, aligning with the directives of Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traor. Beyond Bobo-Dioulasso, similar efforts to reinforce the drinking water supply are planned or underway in other cities, including Ouahigouya, Koudougou, Fada N'Gourma, and Ddougou.

Commander Sombi has mandated the construction company to adhere to the project deadlines and ensure high-quality work. He also urged the technical teams and project monitors to remain dedicated to executing the project rigorously and achieving the intended outcomes.
