Kenedougou: The Secretary General of the Kenedougou Province, Bassanma Ko, convened a meeting in Banzon on Saturday, May 9, 2026, with cooperative societies and associations from the commune to discuss the innovations introduced by the new law on freedom of association.According to Burkina Information Agency, the awareness session aimed to ensure community organizations comprehend and adhere to the updated regulatory provisions. Secretary General Bassanma Ko highlighted several key reforms within the new law, emphasizing the need for associations to have a clearly identified headquarters and well-defined objectives.Mr. Ko explained that background checks on founding members are now mandatory, and certain individuals, such as political party leaders, national elected officials, government members, heads of administrative districts, and presidents of institutions, are prohibited from presiding over an association. He also stated that it is no longer permissible for the same individual to lead two associat ions concurrently.The session provided an opportunity for participants to understand the procedures for establishing an association or cooperative society. Several questions and concerns raised by the attendees were addressed and clarified by the provincial delegation.
