Kongoussi:The Community Police Directorate has commenced a three-day training session in Kongoussi, led by Karim Oudraogo, the High Commissioner of Bam Province. This initiative aims to enhance the role of local stakeholders in security management and citizen watch programs, aligning efforts with the fight against insecurity while emphasizing human rights.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the training involves over seventy participants, including representatives from Koglwogo self-defense groups across Bam's communes, as well as members of citizen watch and other relevant actors. The director of community policing, Divisional Police Commissioner Sbastien Sawadogo, highlighted the objective of raising awareness about community policing principles and the guidelines that govern their involvement in security management.
Commissioner Sawadogo emphasized the importance of supporting local security initiatives to ensure they operate within the framework of human rights and legal standards. He pointed out that many localities in Bam have already implemented similar initiatives, making it crucial to enhance the capabilities of their members according to government directives.
Throughout the training, participants will gain insights into community policing concepts, security regulations, human rights, and rules guiding public involvement in security activities. Discussions will address prohibited practices such as physical abuse and extortion, as well as regulations on uniform wearing and visible weapon carrying during security operations.
The head of community policing urged Bam's citizens to actively engage in their security management, noting that the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) cannot combat terrorism alone. The involvement of the entire population is essential, he stressed.
High Commissioner Karim Oudraogo encouraged participants to maximize the benefits of the training and disseminate the acquired knowledge within their communities.
