Double taxation: Mali and Niger slam the door on France

Ouagadougou, (AIB) – Mali and Niger denounced on Tuesday the conventions on non-double taxation with France. These agreements allowed citizens of these three countries not to pay the same taxes in their host countries and residences, the AIB learned.

For Mali and Niger, the conventions aimed at avoiding double taxation with France are unbalanced and constitute considerable shortfalls for their nations.

When these denunciations come into force in three months, the French and French multinationals will pay taxes on income earned in these two countries in Mali and Niger, and vice versa.

Note that Mali and Niger also cited “the persistent hostile attitude of France” against their States to denounce these conventions.

Before these two countries, Burkina Faso had made the same decision in August 2023 to put an end to significant revenue losses suffered for many years.

Since the arrival of the military authorities at the head of Mali, Burkina and Niger, relations with France, accused of paternalism and neocolonialism, have deteriorated significantly.

As proof, Bamako, Ouagadougou and Niamey requested the withdrawal of French anti-terrorist forces from their territories to fight sovereignly against criminals on the basis of their own forces and with the support of partners deemed sincere.
