Kaya:The head of the University Center of Kaya (CUK), Dr. Adama Oudraogo, has called for the emergence of a "new type of student" in Burkina Faso. He made this appeal during a ceremony marking the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, emphasizing the importance of students being aware of their role in the country's development and its journey toward full sovereignty.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony included a solemn raising of the national colors, symbolizing unity and commitment. This was followed by the broadcast of a message from Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso, directed at new high school graduates. The message, initially delivered at the conclusion of the Mandatory Patriotic Immersion event in Ouagadougou, aimed to bolster civic awareness among the students.
Dr. Oudraogo encouraged students to view their time at university as more than just a pursuit of knowledge and degrees. He emphasized the need for students to see themselves as active contributors to national development, describing "the new student" as one who is "conscious and engaged."
The day's events also focused on welcoming and informing new students who had recently passed their baccalaureate exams. The CUK administration highlighted the importance of understanding university regulations and requirements for successful integration and academic success. "If students are well informed, that's already 50% of the success," Dr. Oudraogo remarked.
Several partners participated in the orientation, including the Higher Education Support Fund, the National Center for University Works, the Regional Directorate of Higher Education, and a customary authority, offering guidance and blessings to the new students. This academic year follows the opening ceremony for all higher education and research institutions in Burkina Faso, held on October 5, 2026, at the Burkinabe Institute of Arts and Crafts.
