Gnagna: The Steering Committee of stakeholders in preschool, primary, and non-formal education in the province of Gnagna convened in Bogande under the chairmanship of Sylvain Thiombiano, the provincial director of Preschool, Primary, and Non-Formal Education.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting was organized to unveil the 2026 activity program, distribute letters of assignment, evaluate the results of the harmonized assessments for the first term of the 2025-2026 school year, initiate the literacy campaign, and discuss issues related to personnel management. The event took place in the meeting room of the Provincial Directorate of Preschool, Primary, and Non-Formal Education (DPEPPNF) in Gnagna, attended by key stakeholders in the province's education sector.

Yefile Sory, Head of the Studies and Planning Department at the DPEPPNF in Gnagna, presented the annual activity program for 2026. This program is centered on pedagogical monitoring, enhancing student achievement, advancing the non-formal education sub-sector, and fortifying the capacities of stakeholders. The ongoing implementation of educational reforms is also a priority for 2026.

Mission letters were handed out to department heads to clarify their responsibilities and expected outcomes. They were encouraged to adapt these guidelines to their respective departments for improved efficiency in executing activities.

The Council reviewed the results of the harmonized assessments for the first term of the 2025-2026 academic year within the formal education sub-sector. The analysis pointed out shortcomings and proposed corrective actions to enhance student performance. The Council also addressed the prospect of increasing the number of exam days and the scheduling of harmonized assessments, considering the number of subjects and the introduction of English.

In the non-formal education sub-sector, literacy centers officially opened on January 5, 2026, throughout the province. The launch of the 2025-2026 literacy campaign aims to bolster efforts against illiteracy among young people and adults.

Personnel management was also discussed, focusing on discipline, motivation, mobility, and the optimization of human resources, amidst security and organizational challenges.

Under miscellaneous business, the Council examined service note no. 2025/00848/MEBAPLN/SG concerning adherence to the school calendar and the prohibition of classes outside of officially authorized days. Participants noted certain difficulties encountered in schools and advocated for consideration of the realities on the ground, especially given the security context.

In closing the proceedings, Sylvain Thiombiano congratulated the participants on the results achieved. He urged the heads of basic education districts and service managers to be more involved in implementing planned activities and called on partners to support the DPEPPNF in addressing the sector's challenges.
