Ouagadougou: Pierrette Kafando, a Burkinabe resident in Canada, impressed by the commitment of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, made her contribution to the construction of the country on Friday in Ouagadougou by donating 5 tons of cement to “Faso-Mebo,” the presidential initiative aimed at beautifying and opening up the cities of Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the donor expressed her admiration for the efforts and initiatives of President Ibrahim Traore in favor of national development. “I see the efforts of the President of Faso, all the initiatives he has launched, and it really touched me. I wanted to come myself to see and experience the achievements. And when I arrived, I was even more impressed,” she said.
Ms. Kafando emphasized that her gesture is a modest contribution to nation-building, while also encouraging the Burkinabe diaspora to become more involved. She remarked, “Everyone can help build our country. We can be comfortable abroad, but we’re never better off than at home.”
Appealing to the patriotic feelings of Burkinabe abroad, she recalled a local saying, “wood may last in water, but it will never become a caiman.” She emphasized the importance of contributing to building the country to be proud of it and to leave a legacy for children born abroad.
Beyond her donation, Ms. Kafando engaged in brick-making activities with other volunteers to support the project. She noted, “It’s refreshing to work, to lend a hand. And there was a great atmosphere. You come here, you see the people, and it motivates you even more.”
