FDS Seeks Community Collaboration to Strengthen Security in Tuy Province


Tuy: Security officials from Tuy held a meeting with community leaders in the province on Thursday in Hounde. Chaired by Tuy High Commissioner Issiaka Segda, the meeting aimed to discuss the increase in robberies, burglaries, and traffic accidents, with a view to requesting support from communities for better protection of property and people.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial director of the Tuy National Police (DPPN/Tuy), Norbert Bayala, presented the security report since January 1, 2025. He reported that the province of Tuy recorded 10 cases of armed attacks (including 7 in Hounde and 3 in Founzan), 51 cases of burglaries in Hounde, and 129 road accidents resulting in 17 deaths and 154 injuries, including several serious cases.



The DPPN/Tuy invited opinion leaders composed of municipal authorities, customary and religious leaders, representatives of women and young people, economic operators, as well as members of citizen monitoring committees to become more involved in the prevention and fight against insecurity. “What we expect from you is collaboration. We can be effective together if we collaborate,” he stated.



To reduce the incidence of robberies and burglaries, Mr. Bayala recommended the installation of surveillance cameras and the improvement of public lighting, particularly in commercial areas and municipalities. Regarding traffic accidents, he emphasized the importance of raising awareness among young people about speed limits and the need to avoid entrusting vehicles to minors. The DPPN Bayala also proposed the construction of roads parallel to the RN1 to relieve traffic congestion on this busy road.



Following his presentation, participants engaged with security officials and made proposals to strengthen public security. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the FDS in their missions. High Commissioner Issiaka Segda congratulated the FDS for their efforts and thanked all participants in the meeting. He expressed his reliance on everyone to relay the information received within their communities and to encourage better collaboration for safety and the promotion of good behavior on the road.
