Ouagadougou: The National Fire Brigade (BNSP) emerged victorious in the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces Cup in military football, defeating the National Police team 3-1 in the final at the Issoufou Joseph Conombo municipal stadium.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Firefighters showcased strong performance against the Police, who initially took the lead with Kevin Some’s goal in the 12th minute. The Firefighters responded swiftly, leveling the score before the first half concluded, courtesy of Prospere Zida. In the second half, BNSP maintained their momentum and capitalized on a penalty, awarded after a foul in the 18m area, which Olivier Dipama successfully converted. BNSP sealed their victory with a third goal, securing the trophy, a gold medal, and a prize of 500,000 FCFA.
The National Police, finishing as runners-up, received a silver medal and 400,000 FCFA. The Central Group of Armed Forces claimed third place, earning a bronze medal and 350,000 FCFA. Despite finishing 10th, the Customs team was recognized for their fair play, having only received four yellow cards. Private First Class Sosthene Compaore was named the best player of the competition, while Staff Sergeant Assamy Sawadogo was the top scorer with 21 goals.
BNSP captain, Battalion Chief Herve Kinda, commented on the challenging match, emphasizing the team’s determination and effort. Police Lieutenant Daniel Sagnon, captain of the Police team, highlighted the camaraderie and cohesion fostered by the competition. Brigadier General Moussa Diallo, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and chief organizer of the event, praised all participants for their efforts and emphasized the importance of unity between the FDS and the VDP.
After a 14-year hiatus, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Cup returned, with organizers planning to make it an annual event. A date has already been set for next year’s tournament.
