Ouéléni:The teaching staff and students of the Fitiguidiassa Public Primary School have commenced the harvest of sweet potatoes from their one-hectare school field. This initiative, supported by the School Council, is expected to yield approximately five tons of tubers to aid the school's canteen and improve its financial independence.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the field, located within the school premises, is part of broader reforms in the Burkinabe education system aimed at diversifying school meals, promoting local production, and enhancing practical learning for students.
Bakouré Bazié, the director of the school, emphasized the school's dedication to these educational reforms and noted that the cultural activities involving students, teachers, and the School Council help align learning with local realities. The initiative also fosters community engagement with the educational project and supports the NEKRE pact, aimed at adapting the education system to current challenges.
Comrade Bazié expressed gratitude to the community and the CCEB of Ouéléni, Issa Traoré, for their advice on managing the school field. He explained that part of the harvest will be sold while the rest will be used in the school canteen. Issa Traoré commended the educators for their dedication and celebrated the school's extension of local agricultural practices, praising the results as motivational for the educational community.
The students were educated on the nutritional benefits of local products, and a sweet potato dish was prepared for participants to enjoy. The first day of the harvest concluded with students celebrating through songs and dances, reflecting their enthusiasm and pride in the project.
