Harare: The raising of the colors strengthens the bond between administration and the people. The Gnagna province held its traditional flag-raising ceremony on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Bogand© town hall, with the participation of administrative authorities, community leaders, and the local population. The ceremony was presided over by the Secretary General of the Gnagna province, Mendien, also known as Moussa Soma.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was initiated as part of efforts to strengthen civic engagement and social cohesion. The event featured a presentation on the responsibilities of the municipal institution, focusing on patriotism, civic engagement, and the promotion of local consumption. The administrative authority provided a summary of the municipality's missions, emphasizing its role in managing local affairs.
In line with the General Code of Local Authorities, the municipality plays a crucial role in areas such as civil status, basic education, health, sanitation, land management, local economic development, culture, and sports. Speaking at the event, the prefect, president of the special delegation, expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon the town hall, highlighting the initiative's role in raising awareness of local institutions and bridging the gap between the administration and the people.
The town hall's secretary general, Mr. Bilgo, mentioned that the municipal structure consists of 14 functional departments, each dedicated to addressing specific population needs. He also emphasized the contribution of the Public Reading and Cultural Activities Center (CELPAC) to the municipality's educational and cultural development.
The Secretary General of the Gnagna Province, Mendien, also known as Moussa Soma, remarked that the monthly flag-raising ceremony demonstrates the highest authorities' commitment to enhancing civic responsibility and patriotism. He encouraged the population to embrace the Days of Patriotic Engagement by adopting responsible and supportive behaviors.
He further urged citizens to support the national economy and promote local expertise by consuming local products, encapsulated in the slogan "Let's consume Burkinab¨." The flag-raising ceremony has now become a pivotal opportunity for raising awareness, sharing information, and strengthening the relationship between the administration and the people in the Gnagna province.
