Nando:Women in the Nando region are taking proactive measures towards their health by participating in free screenings for breast and cervical cancer, HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis. These screenings are part of the "Pagb yidgr soore" communication campaign for women's entrepreneurship, launched on October 10.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Alassane Ouedraogo, the head physician at the Kokologho Medical Center, highlighted the critical role of early diagnosis, especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. He mentioned that while a few cases of breast cancer have been detected in the area, cervical cancer remains less common. Hepatitis B, however, is the most prevalent viral infection, with a 10% prevalence rate. The campaign also addresses the higher frequency of HIV among sex workers, who are receiving regular support.
The campaign has generated significant interest, with nearly a hundred people tested in Koudougou recently, and about fifty women awaiting their turn in Kokologho. This initiative provides onsite treatment for certain infections and referrals for necessary follow-up care. It also emphasizes the economic empowerment of women, addressing issues like land access, financing, and economic opportunities.
Religious and traditional leaders participated in discussions to transform dialogue into actionable support for women's entrepreneurship. Moussa Sawadogo, the monitoring and evaluation coordinator of the Union of Religious and Customary Leaders of Burkina Faso for the Promotion of Health and Development, expressed gratitude for the assistance from the SWEDD+ project, the United Nations Population Fund, the World Bank, and partner ministries.
Jerome Yameogo, the president of the special delegation of the municipality, urged continuous promotion of women's entrepreneurship. Her Majesty, the Napoko of the canton of Kokologho, committed to enhancing women's organizational capabilities to better advocate for their interests and projects, ultimately supporting family investments.
