Ganzourgou: More than 5 million FCFA of food and non-food items collected by Radio Laafi given to IDPs

The management of Radio Laafi in Zorgho has officially handed over the food and non-food items it has collected to internally displaced persons in Ganzourgou province. It was on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at its headquarters, during a ceremony chaired by the High Commissioner, Aminata Sorgho / Gouba and sponsored by His Excellency the Naba Sanem, customary chief of Zorgho, representing the “Tom Naaba” of Zorghum.

The security crisis that Burkina Faso has been going through since 2015 leaves no one indifferent. The appeal launched by the Transitional government to support the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) has found an attentive ear in Ganzourgou.

Indeed, Laafi radio in Zorgho echoed this call by initiating a campaign to collect food and non-food items to support IDPs and the FDS.

Symbolic delivery of food to a beneficiary.

According to the director of Radio Laafi, Albert Tarpaga, it was a question of inviting the populations through the waves of the radio to bring their contributions to support the IDPs and the FDS.

Started on February 1, 2023, the campaign has made it possible to collect to date, 5 tons of rice, 6 tons of sorghum, 100 kg of cowpea, 8 cans of 25 liters each, 18 bags of 100 kg of effects of clothing for the IDPs and the sum of 800,000 francs to support the war effort, all estimated at 5,380,000 CFA francs.

All the fruits of the collection were handed over to the authorities on June 3 in the presence of the populations and the IDPs. The ceremony was marked by four interventions.

For the director of the radio, Albert Tarpaga, it is a sign of solidarity that the radio wanted to give through this initiative.

According to him, Laafi radio was created in 2003 by the African Solidarity Association (AAS), which makes solidarity its leitmotif. He took the opportunity to thank the administrative, customary, religious authorities, associations and all those who joined the initiative and made their contribution.

Aminata Sorgho/ Gouba congratulated Laafi radio for its initiative.

He made a special mention to the Naba Sanem of Zorgho for having encouraged the adherence of customary chiefs and all the populations of the province. He thanked the provincial directorate in charge of Humanitarian Action which was responsible for distributing the donations in the eight municipalities. He thanked the High Commissioner for her wise advice and hoped that the donation could respond somewhat to the needs of the beneficiaries.

The representative of the sponsor of the ceremony, “Tom Naaba” of Zorgho, on behalf of the chief of Zorgho, congratulated the initiator of the collection.

For him, this is a salutary action in view of the number of IDPs present in the province.

He thanked all the customary chiefs who mobilized around the initiative and congratulated the FDS for the efforts they make every day to secure people and property in the province.

According to the High Commissioner of Ganzourgou, Ms. Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, the province currently has 16,314 IDPs hosted in all eight communes.

Despite the government’s efforts, she said, it is difficult to give full satisfaction to all these people.

For her, the only satisfaction worth having is the restoration of security and the return of IDPs to their villages of origin.

Food and clothing are distributed in the eight municipalities of the province of Ganzourgou.

According to him, this is what the government is working on with the commitment of the FDS and the VDP. She thanked the direction of the radio for its initiative and invited all the population to redouble their efforts in the mobilization around the FDS and the VDP and to multiply the actions of support for the IDPs.

The representative of the beneficiaries, Lallebila Bembamba thanked Laafi radio, the administrative, customary and religious authorities and all the people of goodwill who sacrificed themselves to help them. He prays to God for the return of peace to Burkina Faso, so that everyone can return to their village.
