Gayeri: CEB Concludes Cultural and Sporting Events Celebrating Resilience

Gayeri: The Basic Education District (CEB) of GayEri concluded its Organization of Sport, Culture and Leisure in Primary Schools (OSCEP) activities on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the GayEri 'A' public primary school with a series of cultural and sporting events.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony featured parades of schools in traditional outfits, performances of both modern and traditional dances, recitals, and board games. The event saw strong participation from students, teachers, parents, and supervisors, creating an atmosphere of fraternity and appreciation for local cultures. Prizes were awarded to various competitors in recognition of their performances.

Administrative, traditional, and religious authorities were also present at the ceremony. A gala match between the health team and the teachers' team preceded the final of the school football tournament between the GayEri "B" school and the Sector 4 "B" school. GayEri "B" emerged victorious, winning the match with one goal to zero and retaining the trophy for the second consecutive year.

In his closing speech, Mr. Raogo Darankoum, chairman of the organizing committee and head of the CEB of GayEri, highlighted that the edition, which commenced on February 28, 2026, was themed "Sport and culture for a civic and patriotic school." He noted that twelve schools participated in various sporting and cultural competitions, including football, sprinting, long jump, recitals, traditional dances, playback, and parades.

Mr. Darankoum expressed appreciation for the mobilization of education system actors and the support of the Provincial Directorate of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education (DPEPPNF) of Komondjari, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and the local populations. He emphasized that the successful execution of this cultural and sporting season amidst a challenging security context symbolizes resilience, hope, and collective determination.

The chairman concluded by urging educational stakeholders to continue leveraging sport and culture to build a civic and patriotic school.
