Ouagadougou, The extraordinary ECOWAS summit held on Sunday in Accra, Ghana, took individual sanctions against members of the ruling junta in Mali and appointed a mediator for Guinea.
The extraordinary summit of ECOWAS decided on the travel ban and the freezing of assets of members of the Malian junta.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alpha Barry, the Conference of Heads of State has decided to impose other types of sanctions on the Malian authorities, in particular economic and financial, if by the ordinary summit next December, it does not there are no advances.
Minister Alpha Barry noted the concerns of the Conference of Heads of State over the Malian case, which may have repercussions on neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso and Niger, and even beyond.
With regard to Guinea, the heads of state and government have decided to maintain the sanctions taken on September 16.
They noted, however, that there is an evolution in the establishment of a government.
The Guinean authorities were asked to quickly propose a timetable for the holding of the elections.
A mediator has been appointed, in the person of the Ghanaian, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, to follow this transition.
The heads of state also condemned the expulsion of the ECOWAS representative in Mali.
At the opening ceremony, a minute of silence was observed in tribute to the victims of Niger and Sierra Leone.
A terrorist attack killed 69 people in Niger and an explosion killed nearly 100 people in Sierra Leone.
The extraordinary summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was chaired by its current president, Nana Akufo-Addo, president of Ghana.
Prime Minister Christophe Joseph Marie Dabiré took part in the summit on behalf of Burkina Faso.
