Gnagna Province Completes Civic Education Training for Over 4,000 Students

Gnagna: On the communal grounds of Sector 2 in Bogande, the rhythmic steps and firm commands punctuated the closing ceremony of the first phase of Civic and Patriotic Education in the Gnagna province. After six weeks of immersion, 4,143 students completed their training, including 577 in Bilanga, 450 in Manni, and 3,116 in Bogande.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony, presided over by the High Commissioner of the province, Jean Baptiste Beogo, was attended by administrative, military, and paramilitary authorities, as well as representatives of the province's various bodies, who came to witness the students' achievements. Launched on January 15th, this first phase introduced middle school students to civic and patriotic values, environmental citizenship, school health, solidarity, and community living. Modules on drug prevention and violence prevention were also provided. On behalf of the participants, student representative Souabou Amidou, from class 1A4 2 at Bantia Municipal High School, expressed his gratitude to the authorities and supervisors for the quality of the instruction, assuring them that the knowledge acquired would serve as their compass in their schools and communities.

Speaking on behalf of the Provincial Director of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, Mr. Lassane Sawadogo, Head of the Specific Support Service and Focal Point for Civic Engagement and Citizenship, commended the commitment and synergy of all stakeholders involved. He thanked the administrative authorities, the defense and security forces, the supervisors, the school principals, the partners, and the parents for their ongoing support. According to him, the success of this first phase is the result of a collective effort and the remarkable engagement of the students.

Speaking at the event, High Commissioner Jean Baptiste Beogo commended the commitment of all those involved at the various sites and stated that the objectives set for the activity had been largely achieved. He urged the students to remain ambassadors of civic responsibility and respect for republican values.

The ceremony, however, took place in a somber atmosphere, marked by the death of a student following a physical assault. Offering condolences to the bereaved family and the educational community, the provincial authorities reiterated that all forms of violence are strictly prohibited by current regulations, emphasizing that the promotion of non-violence remains central to civic and patriotic education.

Despite this somber occasion, the provincial authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuing this initiative, which is part of a broader effort to develop responsible, disciplined citizens who are committed to the values of the nation.
