Goulmou Education Sector Mobilizes Against Mosquito Breeding Grounds

Goulmou:The regional director of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education (DREPPNF) of Goulmou, Yacouba Thiombiano, has called for increased involvement from educational institutions in combating mosquito larval breeding sites. This initiative coincides with the launch of the 3rd edition of the National Vector Control Days (JNLAV), scheduled for October 3 and 4, 2026.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign emphasizes community engagement, aiming to encourage the population to improve sanitation in their environments and eliminate mosquito breeding habitats.

Yacouba Thiombiano expressed appreciation for the efforts of educational stakeholders, highlighting vector control as a crucial preventive measure. He urged school administrators to ensure their facilities are free from conditions conducive to mosquito breeding.

Thiombiano noted that larval breeding sites can form in any object capable of holding water, such as containers or used tires. He encouraged schools to regularly identify and remove these potential mosquito habitats.

He also called on schools to maintain sanitation efforts beyond the two official days of the JNLAV campaign to ensure lasting improvements. Additionally, he encouraged students to act as ambassadors of awareness in their families and communities, promoting long-term adoption of effective sanitation and mosquito-borne disease prevention practices.
