Gourma: The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Yamba, Issa Napon, representing the High Commissioner of Gourma, presided over the third and final ceremony of food distribution for the benefit of 143 vulnerable households.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this food distribution operation, held in Fada N'Gourma, is part of the implementation of the humanitarian program led by the Office for the Development of Evangelical Churches (ODE) with the support of its partners. This initiative marks the final phase of a cycle of three distributions which have enabled a total of 143 vulnerable households in the commune to be assisted.
Each household received a food kit consisting of 1 kg of salt, 2 kg of sugar, 2 kg of fortified flour, 25 kg of rice, 25 kg of maize, 25 kg of cowpeas, and 3 liters of oil. This nutrition package aims to support households facing hardship, in a context marked by the continued arrival of internally displaced persons in the region.
Issa Napon praised the constant commitment of ODE and Kerk in Actie, technical and financial partners of the project, whose action helps to alleviate the difficulties of vulnerable populations. He noted that regular food support provides relief to families, allowing them to preserve their limited resources for other priority needs.
Alongside the distribution, 15 tricycle bikes were given to people living with disabilities to improve their mobility and promote their socio-economic inclusion. The beneficiary, Bila Waongo, expressed her satisfaction, stating that this tricycle will improve her mobility and facilitate her integration into the community. Mr. Napon pointed out that these facilities represent much more than just a means of transportation, but a tool for empowerment and dignity for the beneficiaries.
Funded to the tune of 100 million CFA francs, the ODE humanitarian project also includes the construction of latrines, the rehabilitation of boreholes, the distribution of hygiene kits, and capacity-building activities for community structures. 'To date, more than 90% of the budget has been executed, and an overall review of activities will be presented on November 27,' according to the ODE program coordinator, Pierre Kabore.
The PDS of the commune of Yamba reaffirmed the commitment of the Gourma authorities to support initiatives aimed at strengthening household resilience and social cohesion. He also expressed the hope that current humanitarian efforts would give way, in the near future, to actions for sustainable development and community recovery.
