Ouagadougou: The government has announced the adoption of a new decree aimed at regulating the organization of religious pilgrimages, a move decided during the Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday, September 4. This decree seeks to enhance the role of the State in supervising religious pilgrimages, which are significant rituals for faithful believers, both domestically and internationally.According to Burkina Information Agency, religious pilgrimages have been characterized by minimal State involvement and insufficient regulation, with the exception of the pilgrimage to Mecca, which is governed by an existing decree from April 9, 2018. The newly adopted decree aims to address these gaps by providing a structured framework for the organization of religious pilgrimages, thereby ensuring better management and oversight by the State.
