Manga:The governor of the Nazinon region, Massadalo Yvette Nacoulma/Sanou, has launched the 7th edition of the "Let's Consume Local" Month, urging the community to prioritize local products. The initiative, which began on October 20, 2026, aims to support local producers and bolster Burkina Faso's economic sovereignty.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this year's event is themed "Consuming locally, a factor of regional integration and economic sovereignty of the WAEMU in the face of changes in global trade." The focus is on promoting goods and services derived from local and community production.
Governor Nacoulma/Sanou emphasized the importance of local consumption amid global supply chain disruptions and market uncertainties. She highlighted the agro-sylvo-pastoral, artisanal, and pre-industrial potential of regions like Bazèga, Nahouri, and Zoundwéogo, advocating for their further development. The governor also appreciated the diversity and quality of local products, as well as the richness of regional gastronomy showcased during the event.
Hermann Ouédraogo, the regional director of Industry, Trade and Crafts of Nazinon, stated that the initiative aligns with the country's drive for economic sovereignty. He mentioned various local specialties, such as peas, zamné, gonré and babenda, soumbala rice, and gnon, which were featured at the event. He noted that promoting these products could help reduce Burkina Faso's reliance on external markets.
The "Buy Local" Month, established in October 2019 by the Ministers of Trade of UEMOA member states, seeks to enhance raw material processing, add value, and create employment. The 7th edition's program includes stand visits, tastings, training for exhibitors, and inspection visits to production and processing units scheduled for October 22, 2026.
Regional authorities have encouraged the public to support local producers and incorporate local products into their daily consumption habits.
