Guiriko’s Family Sport Event Promotes Peace and Social Unity in Bobo-Dioulasso

Bobo-dioulasso: The 6th edition of Family Sport took place on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Yeguere plateau in Bobo-Dioulasso. The event successfully brought together administrative authorities, sports enthusiasts, and numerous families, emphasizing the power of sports to foster unity and coexistence.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was held under the theme "Sport, a Factor of Peace and Social Cohesion." It saw significant participation, underlining the community's growing commitment to this initiative, which positions sport as a vehicle for harmony and fraternity.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Seydou Kabore, Regional Director of Sports and Recreation for the Hauts-Bassins region; Crepin Somda, Regional Director of Youth and Employment; Soilliou Karantao, Regional Director of Preschool, Primary, and Non-Formal Education for the Guiriko region; and Lieutenant-Colonel Kando Fuwalagye Lucie, Provincial Director of Water and Forests for the Houet region.

Gospel singer Serge Bethsaleel, the event's patron, lauded the initiative for promoting positive values. "This initiative is commendable," he remarked, "as it brings people together through sport." He expressed his support by traveling from Ouagadougou to participate.

Zakaria Bandaogo, president of the Association for the Promotion and Implementation of Razball and head of the edition, highlighted the importance of family gatherings in strengthening community spirit and promoting peace.

Seydou Kabore, the regional director of Sports and Recreation, spoke on the benefits of sport for both physical and mental health, encouraging attendees to maintain an active lifestyle beyond the event. He advocated for making sports a regular activity and commended the organizers for their efforts, suggesting that the aerobics sessions be held quarterly.

Alexis Bouda, chairman of the organizing committee, expressed satisfaction with the event's success. He thanked the authorities and participants for their support, noting the active involvement of families in the activities. "This perfectly embodies the spirit of family sports," he said.

The event also featured an exhibition match between the sports press team and the National Police team, with the journalists winning 5-2. This marked the first such encounter in years between the two teams.

Encouraged by the event's success, organizers are planning the next Family Sports event in Bobo-Dioulasso, aiming to sustain the momentum of peace and social cohesion through sport.
