Ouagadougou: The Gulmu ma fierte festival is underway on the Newton grounds, running until Sunday, showcasing the vibrant cultural diversity of the Gourmatche community. The festival, which officially launched on Friday, embraces the theme "Cultural Diversity, Foundation of Our Social Cohesion."

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event features a variety of artistic performances, an exhibition, and a bustling market street, all fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and friendly banter. The festival aims to celebrate the rich heritage of the Gourmatche culture, with the opening ceremony having taken place on Friday afternoon.

Georgette Lankoande, nee Haro, the festival's promoter, emphasized the significance of cultural diversity, stating, "In Burkina Faso, as in all countries of the AES, each community brings its own unique character and wisdom. This diversity makes us a resilient, creative, and united people." She further highlighted that the chosen theme serves as a reminder that differences are a strength, teaching respect, complementarity, and unity.

Over a span of 72 hours, attendees will enjoy performances by various artists and explore an exhibition that showcases the skills and knowledge of the Gourmatche community. The festival also features a market street offering local delicacies, creating an immersive cultural experience.

The event is sponsored by the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, with representation by Arouna Sana. Minister Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, in his address, remarked on the evolving nature of culture, noting, "Culture evolves with us, grows with our experiences and reinvents itself thanks to the talent of those who take the risk of expressing their vision of the world."

The opening ceremony was graced by several notable figures, including the Minister in charge of Higher Education, Professor Adjima Thiombiano. The festival also emphasizes the importance of joking relationships, with a delegation from the Yadega community participating in this tradition, further enhancing the friendly atmosphere.
