Bougouriba: The High Commissioner of Bougouriba, Amidou Konate, conducted visits to farms in Diebougou and Dolo communes to monitor the ongoing 2025-2026 agricultural campaign. The main goals were to evaluate crop conditions, listen to producers’ concerns, and explore solutions to ensure a smoother next season.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Amidou Konate was accompanied by the provincial director of agriculture, municipal officials, journalists, and members of the defense and security forces during his visits. The first stop was at the Signorta association’s market garden in Loto, located 5 kilometers from Diebougou. Here, approximately 300 women cultivate a variety of crops including tomatoes, eggplant, cabbage, and more on a 0.5-hectare plot. Koumbaryir Kadiatou Dabire, the association’s secretary general, mentioned plans to expand their production to include lettuce and onions during the dry season, though they currently face a shortage of watering cans and rakes.
In Dolo, roughly 20 kilometers from Diebougou, the delegation visited multiple sites, including Dimanche Palm’s 10-hectare field and the High Commissioner’s own farm consisting of corn and sunflowers. The delegation also toured the 5-hectare “MARAH” farm of the Departmental Agriculture Service and the expansive 49 hectares of Bimia Palm. Dimanche Palm emphasized the need for local youth to utilize their own fields for profit rather than seeking work elsewhere.
Farmers highlighted issues such as erratic rainfall and a lack of mineral fertilizers. Provincial director Lazi Mande reported that 668 tons of subsidized fertilizers were distributed this year and advocated for the use of organic manure due to its nutrient and water retention benefits.
Despite these hurdles, Mande remarked on the “generally promising fields.” High Commissioner Konate commended the “commitment of producers” and assured collaboration with technical services to alleviate their challenges. Bougouriba anticipates that production could exceed 70,000 tonnes by the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season.
