High Commissioner Urges Education Sector to Foster Cultural Unity in Tuy

Tuy: The High Commissioner of Tuy Province, Issiaka Segda, has made a significant call to education stakeholders to instill a love of country, respect for cultural diversity, and a sense of communal living in students. This appeal was made during the national flag-raising ceremony at the Tuy Provincial Directorate of Secondary, Vocational, and Technical Education, attended by notable figures from the province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, High Commissioner Segda emphasized that schools are fundamental in transmitting social and cultural values. He stressed the importance of refocusing on cultural identity as a response to the current security and social challenges, highlighting culture as a cornerstone of national identity and social cohesion.

Mr. Segda also underscored the special significance of April 2026, marked by the 4th edition of the Burkinabe Heritage Month from April 18 to May 18. He explained that this initiative is aimed at promoting national cultural heritage, enhancing a sense of belonging, and passing on core values to younger generations.

Additionally, the High Commissioner announced the 22nd edition of the National Culture Week (SNC) to be held from April 25 to May 2, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso. The event, themed "Culture, Youth and Transmission of Social Values," highlights the role of culture in national strategies for social cohesion and development.

He called upon education stakeholders to actively participate in these cultural events to promote cultural identity and reinforce social unity. Mr. Segda also acknowledged the efforts of provincial education authorities, notably the provincial directorate of secondary education, for their dedication amidst challenges.

Seydou Traore, the provincial director of secondary, vocational, and technical education in Tuy, expressed pride in hosting the flag-raising ceremony. He used the occasion to introduce the department, established in April 2019, to key provincial stakeholders and outline its primary challenges.

The National Social Security Fund (CNSS) in Hounde has been selected to host the next national flag-raising ceremony, set for May 4, 2026.
