High Demand for AES Biometric Identity Cards at SIAO 2026

Ouagadougou:Young people, women, and men are flocking to the National Identification Office (ONI) stand at the 18th edition of the Ouagadougou International Arts and Crafts Fair (SIAO) to obtain the AES biometric identity card.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ONI stand, located near the Rising Sun pavilion, has been operational since the fair's opening on October 31, 2026. It has witnessed increasing demand as visitors line up to complete the necessary formalities under a dedicated tent. Three agents handle the initial processes while another line is designated for photos and further steps.

Chief Warrant Officer Valentin Kaboré of the ONI explained that the surge in applications follows the authorities' decision to replace the national identity card with the AES identity card. The ONI's presence at SIAO is intended to make identity services more accessible, complementing existing enrollment centers in Ouagadougou's districts.

Enrollment agent Falimata Congo noted that approximately 300 people registered by November 2, despite some applicants submitting incomplete documentation. The agents assist in clarifying the required documents for the process. Adama Diallo, a user at the fair, praised the ONI's effort, highlighting the convenience compared to traditional police station procedures.
