Houet Launches Boundary Marker Installation in Kouakoual© to Resolve Land-Related Liabilities

Houet: The Burkinabe government officially launched the operation to install boundary markers this Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Kouakoual©, Houet province. This initiative is part of the Program for the Restructuring of Spontaneous Housing Areas and the Clearing of Urban Land Liabilities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, with an area of over 1,000 hectares, the Kouakoual© site appears as an essential link in this vast program. The operation of installing boundary markers aims to delineate the boundaries of the plots, an essential step for a rational organization of urban space and better land security. For the authorities in charge of the project, the challenge is twofold: to correct the irregularities of the past while preparing a structured housing framework for the populations.

The deputy secretary general of the ministry in charge of Construction, Yacouba Siko, stated that the site has been set up to accommodate as a priority those affected by the cleanup operations, but also those impacted locally. "This site will allow us to resettle the populations affected by the cleanup operations, but also some of those impacted within Kouakoual© itself," he explained.

Specifically, the project provides for the creation of 17,501 plots for residential use, with areas ranging between 240 and 300 square meters. In addition to these, there are 1,854 commercial plots of approximately 400 square meters each. Land reserves are also planned for basic social infrastructure, including schools, health centers, green spaces, and other community facilities.

On the ground, this pilot phase specifically concerns the 5th district of Bobo-Dioulasso. The head of the special delegation, ‰tienne Bako, who was present at the launch, expressed satisfaction and emphasized the importance of this operation for the many residents concerned, while also praising the progress of the work.

The success of this initiative depends on the involvement of local stakeholders. Traditional authorities and local populations are actively participating in the process, fostering a peaceful social climate conducive to accelerating the work. Teams are already mobilized on the ground for the manufacture and installation of the terminals.

Beyond Kouakoual©, the authorities aspire to extend this operation to other districts of Bobo-Dioulasso. Ultimately, the goal is to sustainably resolve the issue of urban land disputes and promote better planned and inclusive urban development.
