Oubri: "The best Muslim is the one who is most useful to his society," Imam Zougmore

The Circle of Islamic Studies, Research and Training (CERFI) of Oubri organized a regional conference this Saturday under the theme "Islam and traditions", with a view to promoting tolerance and social cohesion by highlighting the common values between Islam and traditions. The conference was held in the conference room of the Oubri Regional Council. It was sponsored by the Governor of the region, Hadja Assetou Sy Barry/Traore, represented by the High Commissioner of Bassitenga, Sadou Guigma, who presided over the opening ceremony.

According to Burkina Information Agency, in his address, the governor's representative emphasized that peace remains a shared aspiration of all Burkinabe. He called for a sincere rapprochement between religions and traditions in order to build a harmonious and united society. The regional coordinator of CERFI Oubri, Assane Sampawende Derme, stated that the conference responds to a directive from the national executive office of CERFI. "The theme was chosen to respond to a current reality where some oppose Islam to traditions. The objective is to debate it calmly and find solutions," he said.

The presentation was given by Imam Boukare Zougmore, who explained the relationship between Islam and traditions, highlighting their points of convergence. "Islam can ally itself with tradition to build a united Burkina Faso. It encourages good practices and condemns those that harm people or create injustice," he stated. For the participants, the conference helped to clear up some misconceptions. El hadj Barou Oumar Ouedraogo noted that Islam and tradition pursue the same objective: to train men and women of good moral character to serve society.

These CERFI regional conferences are held in all regions of Burkina Faso, with the aim of strengthening social cohesion and living together.
