Burkina faso: The Burkinabe National Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the Institute of Social Sciences (INSS), has organized an international scientific symposium which is being held in Ouagadougou from May 22 to 23, 2026, with the aim of providing endogenous solutions to societal violence based on witchcraft.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the symposium gathers experts, researchers, and policymakers to address the complex issues surrounding witchcraft-related violence in society. The event seeks to explore traditional and community-based approaches to mitigate the harm caused by such violence. Attendees are expected to engage in discussions on cultural and historical perspectives, aiming to foster understanding and develop practical solutions that can be implemented at the local level.
The initiative underscores the importance of integrating indigenous knowledge systems and practices in addressing societal challenges. Organizers hope that the outcomes of the symposium will contribute to policy formulation and community efforts aimed at reducing violence linked to witchcraft beliefs. The symposium also provides a platform for sharing experiences and strategies that have been effective in other regions facing similar issues.
