Dori: The regional coordinator of women's organizations in the Sahel, Halimatou Guir e/Lompo, launched an appeal in Dori on Friday for unity among all social components in order to create an environment conducive to the full participation of women in building a reconciled, stable, and prosperous Burkina Faso. She was speaking at the national flag-raising ceremony organized as part of the commemorative activities for International Women's Day in the Sahel region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration was placed under the theme: "Building lasting peace in Burkina Faso: what contribution of women and girls to the promotion of living together?" The event aims to highlight the role of women in consolidating peace and strengthening social cohesion. Ms. Lompo emphasized that unity and mobilization of all actors are essential conditions to enable women and girls to contribute fully to peace restoration efforts and the development of the country.
"Despite the challenges our country is facing, Burkinabe women continue to demonstrate resilience, courage, and commitment to their communities," she stated. She indicated that women should not be seen solely as victims of crises and conflicts, but also as major players in peace, social cohesion, and development.
The regional coordinator also invited administrative authorities, community leaders, technical and financial partners, and all citizens to join forces to create an environment conducive to the effective involvement of women in local and national peacebuilding initiatives. Ms. Lompo reaffirmed the commitment of women's organizations to promote a culture of peace, forgiveness, and social cohesion, while contributing to the transmission of civic values to younger generations.
The governor of the Liptako region, Abdoul Karim Zongo, paid tribute to women, especially internally displaced women, who demonstrate courage and resilience in a security context. He also praised their contribution to economic activities, particularly agricultural production, which contributes to the resilience of communities.
The governor stressed that International Women's Day should be a framework for introspection on the real conditions of Burkinabe women and on the concrete actions to be taken to promote their empowerment and their active participation in the development of the country. The ceremony brought together administrative authorities, representatives of the defense and security forces, as well as several women's organizations from the Liptako region.
