Jean Paul Soro Installed as New Abbot of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish

Toma:Nayala The new abbot of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Toma, Jean Paul Soro, has emphasized that the role of a priest is primarily one of service rather than honor. His remarks were made during his official installation mass held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Church of Toma.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was attended by administrative authorities, religious leaders, pastoral agents, and many faithful. The installation ritual was conducted by Father Alfred Diban Ki, Vicar General and representative of the Bishop of the Diocese of Ddougou. During the homily, the bishop's representative reminded the congregation that changes in leadership should not distract them from the presence of God in their lives and communities. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in faith and to support each other in the Church's mission.

One of the highlights of the event was the reading of the letter of appointment and the symbolic handover of the church keys to Father Jean Paul Soro, marking his new pastoral responsibility. As the 25th leader of the 113-year-old parish, Soro called upon the community to engage fully in parish life and foster a welcoming environment for everyone, especially the marginalized.

The High Commissioner of Nayala Province, Honor Frdric Par, congratulated Soro and praised the efforts of his predecessor, Father Jean Gourou. Par assured the administration's support for religious leaders and encouraged the faithful to embrace the new pastoral team warmly.

Father Jean Gourou, the outgoing parish priest, urged the community to continue their evangelization efforts and requested prayers for the parish of Saint John the Baptist in Tchriba, which he now administers. The installation of Father Soro is seen as a call for the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish to enhance its cohesion and contribution to peace and community life in Nayala.
