The province of Tuy commemorated National Tree Day on Saturday July 6, 2024 in Houndé. This day also marks the start of the reforestation campaign in the province.The delayed commemoration of National Tree Day (JNA) in the Tuy province took place on Saturday July 6, 2024 in Karaba, in the commune of Houndé.On a site of approximately 2 ha, 506 plants made up of 4 species: the baobab, the néré, the jujube tree and the caïlcedrat were planted.The official launch, carried out by High Commissioner Issiaka Segda, marks the reforestation campaign in the Tuy province.In the launch speech, delivered by the Provincial Director in charge of the Environment of Tuy, Nébila Paulin Bationo, it emerged that the National Tree Day aims, among other things, to magnify the tree for its numerous goods and services rendered to man and to arouse popular enthusiasm with a view to carrying out concrete actions for the greening of our dear homeland.He indicated that, according to a study, Burkina Faso loses annually on avera ge 243,450 ha of plant formations and that the total area of ??degraded land is estimated at 5,921,078 ha.According to him, to reverse this trend, Burkina Faso must recover 296,104 ha of degraded land annually.In this dynamic, he suggested, the Tuy province plans to produce 224,000 plants and plant 222,000 plants during this 2024 reforestation campaign.The president of the special municipal delegation, Souleymane Dianda, indicated that it is necessary to regreen the plant cover in Houndé because of gold panning and land pressure.'I take this opportunity to remind the entire population of Houndé of our individual and collective responsibility to work for the protection and preservation of the environment, a guarantee of our health and sustainable development,' he said. he declares.The High Commissioner of Tuy province, Issiaka Segda, invited the population not only to plant trees, but also to maintain them to benefit from their goods and services.While urging the population to plant useful crops du ring this campaign to strengthen their resilience, the Provincial Director in charge of the environment of Tuy expressed his gratitude to the Ouagadougou-Koudougou-Dédougou-Bobo-Dioulasso (OKDB) project whose support enabled the organization of this activity.As a reminder, the JNA 2024 was held on Saturday June 22, 2024 on the theme: 'Tree, capital of resilience for endogenous development' in Bobo-Dioulasso.Source: Burkina Information Agency
