Kadiogo: Aube Nouvelle University of Ouagadougou clinched the final trophy of the university football competition known as the "Dream League" on Sunday, defeating the Ouagadougou Private Higher Polytechnic Institute 1-0. Played at the Ouaga 2000 Shopping Center's "Temple of Football," the final pitted two teams against each other, both of whom made their mark throughout the competition. With this victory, Aube Nouvelle University takes home the trophy, a cash prize of 250,000 CFA francs, and medals. The runners-up receive a prize of 150,000 CFA francs and medals.
According to Burkina Information Agency, individual awards were also given to the best goalkeeper, top scorer, and best player of the tournament. A total of 20 teams from public and private universities in Ouagadougou participated in this third edition of the Dream League, which was organized to promote football in the university environment.
The captain of the winning team, Cheick Nana, attributed his team's success to solidarity and fair play. "This is our second time participating in this competition. We remained united from beginning to end. We thank the promoter for this initiative," he said.
The competition promoter, Davy Isma«l Sib, praised the smooth running of the tournament and the sporting spirit displayed by the teams. "All the teams involved are made up exclusively of students. The Dream League aims to reconcile studies and the practice of football," he explained.
For the third edition, Mr. Sib announced his ambition to create a showcase club that will bring together the 25 best talents detected during the competition in order to promote their progression towards the top level.
Present at the final, the general manager of the Stade du 4-Aot, Dioyabidi Gilbert Lompo, praised the promoter's initiative and encouraged the young players to continue their efforts. "We witnessed a competition marked by the commitment and determination of the students. Let them continue to work, because the best is yet to come," he stated.
