Kadiogo: The 72 hours of the taxi driver were launched on Saturday in Ouagadougou, with the main objectives of raising awareness among drivers about transport document regulations, technical inspections, insurance, as well as civic responsibility, road safety and the fight against terrorism. The opening ceremony brought together more than 200 taxi drivers from different parts of the capital, under the chairmanship of the representative of the Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, Jean Victorien Toe.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Emmanuel Nacoulma, president of the National Federation of Taxi Drivers' Unions and Urban Transport Stakeholders of Burkina Faso (FNST/ATU-B), stated that these workshops are part of a broader effort to strengthen the professional skills of drivers. "Transportation plays a crucial role in the economic and social development of our country by facilitating the mobility of people and goods," he emphasized.
The head of the federation also announced the arrival, in January 2026, of 2,000 Itawa Motors brand electric taxis to modernize the national taxi fleet.
For his part, technical advisor Jean Victorien Toe praised the relevance of the theme for the 2025 edition: "What resilience do taxi actors have in the face of the security and economic crisis our country is going through?" A theme which, according to him, testifies to the commitment of actors in the sector to contribute to national stabilization efforts.
"In a context of rapid urbanization, you are essential players in the functioning of our cities. Your role in urban fluidity, security and social cohesion is major," he stressed.
During the discussions, the federation issued several recommendations, including the provision of parking areas for taxis in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, as well as the strict application of the decree prohibiting tricycles from transporting people and regulating their circulation from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The FNST/ATU-B reiterated its mission to defend the material and moral interests of its members and to contribute to a better organization of urban transport in Burkina Faso.
