Kamadena Plain Becomes a Hub for Traditional Fishing After Bountiful Rainy Season

Koosin: The undeveloped plain of Kamadena is experiencing a surge in fishing activities following a successful rainy season, providing significant income for local families. This development was observed on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Kamadena plain has turned into a lucrative fishing ground at the onset of the harvest season. As a crucial component of the village’s economy, the fishing activity is witnessing exceptional productivity. The traditional fishing methods, involving setting nets in the water for a day or two before retrieving them, have been passed down through generations in Kamadena, continuing to sustain numerous families.

Moussa Sow, a seasoned fisherman, reported that this year’s fishing activities are particularly profitable. He has even employed three young workers to assist him in his endeavors. While Sow has successfully launched several personal projects through fish sales, he acknowledges the seasonal nature of the industry. As the water levels recede, he diversifies his work to maintain his livelihood.

Fish caught in Kamadena is marketed directly from the fishermen’s homes, where local women purchase it for resale at regional markets. One such vendor, Mrs. Dama, travels to Kamadena to buy fish, currently priced at 2500 CFA francs per kilogram. For many families in Kamadena, fishing remains a vital income source.

The potential development of Kamadena plain could unlock vast opportunities for its inhabitants, further enhancing their economic prospects.
