Kaya Traffic Crackdown: 157 Road Users Ordered to Clean Gutters

Kaya: 157 people were arrested on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in Kaya by the National Police during a traffic control mission. They were assigned to cleaning gutters. For their indiscipline on the public highway, particularly their failure to respect traffic lights, these 157 road users spent the day cleaning the gutters of the town of Kaya and collecting rubbish. In addition to community service, offenders will have to pay a fine before being able to recover their vehicles once the service has been completed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Larba Salambanga, regional director of the National Police in the Centre-North region, expressed concern over the increase in traffic accidents. The police commissioner indicated that during the first quarter of 2025, his services recorded 190 cases of accidents in the main towns of the region, namely Boulsa, Kaya, and Kongoussi. These accidents caused 248 injuries and 15 deaths, including 11 in Kaya, 2 in Kongoussi, and 1 in Boulsa.

In a recently published report, the Ministry of Security ranked Kaya as the second city with the highest number of road accidents, just after Ouagadougou, for the period from February 2025. According to the regional director, these repressive operations, which began in Kongoussi and Kaya, will also affect the city of Namend© and will be regularly renewed, in accordance with the government's desire to enforce order and discipline.
