Kindi Community Rallies to Provide Housing for Homeland Defense Volunteers

Kindi:A community effort led by the citizen watch sub-section in Koné, a village near Kindi, has embarked on constructing a large building to accommodate Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the building is being constructed on a 4-hectare plot generously donated by the customary Ouambi Kaboré. The facility will feature six bedroom-living rooms and a roof made from 90 sheets of metal. The project, spearheaded by Jonas Kaboré and local active forces, has garnered extensive community support.

Initially, residents were asked to contribute 1,500 CFA francs each, but due to overwhelming participation, the contribution was increased to 5,000 CFA francs. This collective effort has raised over 6 million CFA francs, allowing the project to near completion. Remaining tasks include installing metal sheets, creating openings, and completing plastering and interior finishes.

On October 8, 2026, Yves Ahmed Sanou, president of the special delegation of the commune of Kindi, along with the deputy commander of the Kindi gendarmerie, visited the site to recognize the community's efforts. The visit also included Ibrahim Bonkoungou and Daouda Sanfo, provincial focal points, and the village's crown prince.

Jonas Kaboré informed the visiting officials that an additional 6 million CFA francs are needed to complete the project. The delegation was invited to provide expert advice and support. Yves Ahmed Sanou encouraged the use of digital and social media platforms to engage the diaspora for further support, highlighting the initiative as a model for other localities.

Provincial focal points praised the initiative, aligning it with the President's goals for security and resilience, and promised to escalate the matter to higher authorities for potential support.
